Frequently Asked Questions

Can you help us figure out what kind of care my loved one needs?
Yes. I take the time to understand your situation and guide you through options like assisted living, skilled nursing, in-home care, or other appropriate resources. Every family’s path is different - I’m here to help you find the right one.
🧭 What does Gracious Navigation do?
I guide families through the Arizona Long Term Care System (ALTCS) application process and help them make informed decisions about eldercare - offering clarity, compassion, and experienced support every step of the way.
🩺 What is ALTCS and who qualifies?
ALTCS is Arizona’s Medicaid program for long-term care. It helps cover costs for assisted living, nursing care, and in-home services. Qualification is based on medical and financial need. I help families through every step - paperwork, coordination, and advocacy.
📄 What documents do we need to start the ALTCS application?
The process can feel overwhelming, but I’ll walk you through it. Typically, families gather medical records, financial statements, identification documents, and power of attorney forms. I help organize and prepare everything step-by-step.
🕰️ How long does the ALTCS application process take?
It varies - usually between 45 to 90 days. That said, I assist with planning and follow-ups to avoid delays and keep families informed throughout. My goal is to reduce stress, not add to it.
🛑 What if we've been denied ALTCS before?
It happens. I review your previous application, identify what went wrong, and help you decide whether to reapply, appeal, or explore other options. Denial doesn’t mean the end - it means we shift strategy.
💰 What if my loved one is over the income or asset limits for ALTCS—can they still qualify?
Yes, they might still qualify! Many families assume that being "over income" or "over resources" means ALTCS is off the table - but that’s not always true. Arizona offers planning options like income-only Miller Trusts (also called Qualified Income Trusts) and spend-down strategies that may help individuals meet ALTCS eligibility requirements.
At Gracious Navigation, I help you understand these options and whether they apply to your situation. I don’t offer legal or financial advice, but I do guide families through the process and connect them with trusted professionals when needed.
Don’t rule out ALTCS - explore your path with clarity and support
📋 Do you help with legal forms like Power of Attorney or Advance Directives?
Yes—Gracious Navigation offers non-legal guidance to help families understand and complete important documents like:
-
Medical Power of Attorney (MPOA)
-
Mental Health Power of Attorney (MHPOA)
-
Advanced Directives
-
General Durable POA (GDPOA)
I explain each form, walk you through completion, and ensure you feel confident in the process. If legal advice is needed, I’ll help connect you with appropriate professionals.
🌎 Do you only help families in Arizona?
Yes, my services are focused on Arizona families navigating ALTCS and eldercare decisions specific to the state’s systems and requirements. If you're outside Arizona, I’m happy to help you locate qualified resources in your area.
💖 Do you provide emotional support too?
While I’m not a counselor, emotional clarity is part of what I offer. Families often feel overwhelmed or unsure - especially when big decisions involve health, finances, and relationships. My role is to listen, guide, and support with empathy. Click here to schedule a Care Management Call.
🏛️ Are you a law firm?
No. I provide non-legal advocacy and education around eldercare and long-term planning. My goal is to empower families, not replace legal counsel. When needed, I’ll help you find licensed attorneys or fiduciaries.
